Horizon Cremation has won planning permission for a new crematorium to be built outside Oxted in Surrey, following a planning inquiry in August and a ruling by Inspector Jonathan Price on 30th September 2021.

The crematorium will serve the numerous residents of Tandridge and surrounding districts who are outside a thirty-minute drive of existing crematoria.   It will also relieve pressure on the existing facilities in the area.   Now that planning permission has been granted, Horizon expects to have the new crematorium open by the summer of 2022.

The building with its large ceremony hall and comfortable waiting room is designed to follow the form of a cluster of traditional farm buildings, but with sharp larch cladding.   It will be surrounded by extensive planting of native trees and a wildflower meadow, bringing wildlife back to a site that currently has little ecological value.   The plans include a formal memorial garden where people will be able to contemplate a lost life.
